To say that I have had enough of the continual overt confusion in today’s lexicon between the terms entrepreneur and opportunist is putting it lightly.
An opportunist is one who takes advantage of opportunities or circumstances often with little regard for principles or consequences.
An entrepreneur takes advantage of opportunities or circumstances with heavy regard for shared principles and value.
The difference is much more than a slight tweak, it is a paradigm that means the world. An opportunist is short-sighted, an entrepreneur has a long view. An opportunist cares not for others, an entrepreneur relies on others. An opportunist is driven by self-preservation, an entrepreneur commits his or her self to the greater good.
Let’s agree to solve this confusion in our everyday lives, shall we?
