Leading Entrepreneurship at 100

March 6th, 2009 · No Comments ·

This post is my 100th, a small accomplishment to some, but an important milestone to me. As I did when this blog was just a mere 50, I would like to share some lessons learned.

  • Bullet points still rule.
  • Forget the number, external domain inlinks are the lifeblood of a blog. Build!
  • I was wrong, Google can account for over half your traffic if (1) you have very specific, very unique content (like adjusted working capital) or (2) you are very lazy at building links (like I have been lately).
  • Titles are still everything in this business.
  • My bounce rate and pages viewed per visit are well below the Google benchmarks, but in every other measure I am doing exceedingly well (see the previous two bullets).
  • The Big Word Project has still been well worth the small investment, although the law of diminishing returns is starting to kick in.
  • I may not have the best ad placement on the web, but the 1/10th of 1% click ratio is again still holding true for me.
  • I still do not know how to make millions off of my impressive “time on site” numbers.

As entrepreneurs, I hope these notes help, as blogging is certainly just one way to get the words out about your products and services – and I feel you should know the rewards and challenges. Of course, I do this to give back, not make money or sell services.

Any thoughts or experiences you’d like to share?
