The first-time 18 year-old voter for the next president is of interest to us as entrepreneurs. Not because they are our sons, daughters, relatives, students, etc. but because our paradigms do not match theirs. To demonstrate, I have profiled the first-time 18 year-old voter below:
Born 1990
Bush, Senior, in Office
Not alive to see the release of Nelson Mandela, the Time/Warner merger, Super Mario Brothers 3, Ted Bundy’s execution or The Little Mermaid’s theatrical release
1st Grade = 1996
Bob Dole vs. Bill Clinton (incumbent)
OJ hearings begin ushering in Fox News, Tupac is shot, Kurt Cobain had been dead for 2 years and the Romones played their last show
Today
A Bush in office >55% of their life
In college, were raised on technology, believe enterpeneurship is hip (but have never started a business and have no frame of reference)
The point is that the technology and media that has shaped our nation happened before these voters were able to put it all in context. Get out there and vote!
