The Frenzy

Does your business have the frenzy?

As summer movie season heats up we are starting to see movie fans across the country willingly participate in big studio viral marketing efforts. I’m calling this new tactic “the frenzy” – because that is what the intended result looks like.

The base model involves a simple viral setup (a domain, a billboard, etc.) – vague, but just related enough to cause intrigue. This is followed by a request for contact information and a buy-in, even though the complete message is unclear. The group is then asked to do some task collectively and rewarded with some prize.

After giving this model some serious thought, could the frenzy be used for entrepreneurial ventures? And not just Apple-type firms, actual growing businesses with a loyal customer base?

I would argue yes every time.

BUT, certain elements have to be in place:

  1. a broad customer base,
  2. a “sexy” product (which we all should have),
  3. a comprehensive plan

Am I just caught up in the frenzy, or are we onto something here?

Comment and let me know.
